Why we selected this company:
Nordic Naturals offers the world’s finest Omega-3 fish oils from the deep cold waters of Norway. Fish oil quality standards do not exist in the United States. To ensure ongoing quality, Nordic Naturals adheres to and exceeds the stringent Norwegian Medicinal Standard (NMS) and the European Pharmacopoeia Standard (EPS) for all products. These standards guarantee quality products by setting maximum allowances on peroxides, heavy metals, dioxins, furans, and PCBs.
Nordic Naturals’ patented, oxygen-free manufacturing process delivers peroxide values (indicators of freshness) down to absolute 0.0 mEq/kg, with an average of 0.75 mEq/kg or approximately 14 times below the Norwegian Medicinal Standard and European Pharmacopoeia Standard limits. The lower the peroxide value, the fresher the fish oil.
Nordic Naturals’ raw material is harvested from some of the cleanest waters in the world, and is tested by independent laboratories for heavy metals and over 210 other environmental contaminants.
Nordic Naturals is a research driven company, where processing technology and product formulations are driven by the latest developments. Without solicitation, leading research institutions such as Harvard University, Georgetown University, Columbia University, and the National Institute of Health have chosen the Nordic Naturals brand for clinical studies. Nordic Naturals products are currently used in fourteen clinical studies at various research facilities and universities around the world. More studies are added every month. To top things off, this company also acts environmentally responsible.
Why we selected this product:
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid found in deep-sea cold water fish. DHA is an essential nutrient for proper brain, nervous system, and visual function and must be obtained through the diet. A healthy balance of DHA is essential to properly care for the brain throughout life, particularly during the early stages of development.
A high concentration of DHA can be found in mother’s breast milk. However, the level is directly related to the amount of omega-3 fatty acids that are consumed in the mother’s diet. Due to refined foods and trendy diets, many individuals have reduced their intake of the dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids, contributing to lower levels of DHA in breast milk. The impact of low DHA intake on neurological function of adults and children is the subject of ongoing clinical investigations.

CP - High DHA blood levels are positively correlated to preschool children's listening comprehension and vocabulary.
Ryan A, Nelson E. Assessing the effect of docosahexaenoic acid on
cognitive functions in healthy, preschool children: a randomized,
placebo-controlled, double-blind study. Clin Pediatr (Phila).
2008;47(4):355-62.
The utility of multicenter cognitive test methodology and resultant outcomes of supplementation with docosahexaenoic acid in healthy 4-year-old children was evaluated in a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study. Subjects received 400-mg/d docosahexaenoic acid (n = 85) or matching placebo (n = 90) in capsules for 4 months. Cognitive tests included the Leiter-R Test of Sustained Attention, Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Day-Night Stroop Test, and Conners' Kiddie Continuous Performance Test. The relationship of docosahexaenoic acid levels in capillary whole blood from a subsample (n = 93) with scores on cognitive tests was evaluated. For each test, results indicated that changes from baseline to end of treatment were not statistically significantly different between the docosahexaenoic acid group and the placebo group. Regression analysis, however, yielded a statistically significant positive (P = .018) association between the blood level of docosahexaenoic acid and higher scores on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, a test of listening comprehension and vocabulary acquisition.
